Delayed New Years Goals
The end of last year was slightly overwhelming for me in 2025, finishing academic projects, following personal goals, and doing lots of things that I was close to ending up in a hospital. I started with bad burnout this year, I couldn’t plan anything, and I was just surviving through the year. I’m a person who needs to have objectives, and normally I pursue lots of things, from my Academic work, my sports life, and photography. I always have vision and objectives, I plan my time and how I’m going to do it. However, this year didn’t happen.
I started this year focusing on my health, I came back to do some exercise, but with really low intensity. I was feeling really bad, I actually went to the doctor to have a test of everything. Later, when I started to feel slightly better, I decided to remove all the things and responsibilities that were not actually mine and were not bringing me any purpose.
Lastly, even though I worked on different photography projects last year, this year my head was not able to cope with it. My creativity is low, and I cannot handle more responsibilities. So one of my main focuses has been to take photos to enjoy, I don’t mind if I get good or bad photos, just go outside and enjoy something I like.
A few months have already passed, we are almost at the middle of the year, I feel a lot better, and I have been able to do some work tasks. In my sport, I feel fitter but not as fit as I used to be, and in photography I’m focusing on a personal project that goes closely with what I do for a living. But apart from this, I have two small personal projects that I want to start for my mental health.
My first personal project is that I want to start creating stories by developing my communication skills. It can be by writting an dy doing videos. I had this blog for my personal thing, but now I want to share it with the world. At the moment, my purpose is to communicate my journaling, give my perceptions of things related to photography and maybe some personal points of view on other topics.
The second project I want to start is to work with my artistic skills. I used to play the guitar, but I also want to improve my drawing skills. I want to stop procrastinating with my phone and use my time for myself.
The objective of these two projects is directly to force myself to slow down. I have a very stressful job, everything needs to be now, quick, and it is urgent. The city where I live is not helpful, Monterrey is quite a busy city, with lots of traffic, and on a bad day, a commute of 10 km can be one hour in traffic. One thing that annoys me is that the cultural stigma of the city is that if you are not working, then you are scum for society, while the people who you work for will have the time to practice the hobbies they like.
Maybe this post is not a great one, it doesn’t have a proper structure, but I really hope that in a few years I come back to read it, and I feel still connected to the things I wrote, and be happy to have made my lifestyle change.
