New project!
A few weeks have passed since my mess with my race, and I have done it again. I was planning to do a local race in my hometown, a race that is quite a rough and extreme challenge. However, as I was starting to train climbing and long distance training, a heat wave hit in Monterrey, I didn’t care and I continue doing my training. Everything was going ok…. but my body reacted…
I did a big exertion training ride with around 40 degrees temperature. I definitely struggled, but I was not going to stop. That afternoon, I started to have a lot of itchiness in my upper arms. I got some spots and I thought it was an insect bite, later in the evening the spots appeared on my chest. The next day, it got crazy and it looked like I had chickenpox. I went to the doctor and apparently it was a heat rash, my skin sweated so much that it blocked all my glands. The doctor asked me to stop doing exercise for at least a week, get some medication and stay out of the heat and the sun.
The rash went so crazy, every day it spread more, and doctor told me that it was the evolution of the rash. I just needed to be patient. I felt so desperate because I stopped being very active to zero. So obviously your mind goes to really dark places.
I tried to find things to do… Things that I had been waiting to do and never got time to do. One of those things was to think about a photography project. During the weekend in a road close to where I live a family of wildpigs got runover and people were even actually doing jokes about how to prepare them to eat. I dislike to be offended, but it made me realise about the ignorance of the people, which is something that is quite difficult to sort out. Now something came to my mind. When I was young I remember playing a videogame that made me excited about photography, it sounds dull but that video game was pokemon snap. I always wanted to be exploring, learn from biologists, and teach myself about animals in the wild.
So, how could I start? Well, we live in 2026 and something that we love and hate is AI, so this tool could actually be helpful. I asked it to let me know about the most important fauna of the region and create a table with the likeness to be an endangered animal, plus the region where it could be found. I got a list of at least more than 100 animals, but there are some animals where normal photography could be risky, and you at least require photo-traps to find the animals (pumas, jaguars, and mountain lions… glup, definitely not now). So this list is going to be my challenge, I actually have some photos of a few of these animals, but my objective is to learn more about their behaviour and learn about them to get better photos.
My main objective with this project, is to create a bit of consciousness about our nature and wildlife, to show people our surroundings and how to protect the environment to protect our neighbours.
